A cup, even if it is cold outside, can keep your coffee piping hot.

For me, coffee is an important part of sustaining life.

It provides a warm, caffeine-filled start to my day, otherwise I would hobble aimlessly in my apartment, trying to get my brain into action. The first cup in the morning is almost a sacred experience-until five minutes later, the coffee becomes a warm sludge of dirty bean water.

Fortunately, like many of my Wirecutter colleagues, I own the Zojirushi SM-SC48 stainless steel mug.

Zojirushi SM-SC (or SM-SD or SM-SA in certain colors) provides amazing heat preservation, one-handed operation and locking, leak-proof cover.

Since 2013, a version of the Zojirushi mug has been Wirecutter's choice because it does a great job of keeping hot liquids hot and cold liquids refrigerated.

In our test, we filled the cup with 200 degrees Fahrenheit water and put it in the refrigerator. After eight hours, the water temperature dropped to 142 degrees Fahrenheit. In the same test, another travel mug pick (also vacuum sealed) reduced the water temperature to 80 °F.

Our cups fell on the floor and concrete after years of traveling in the city. The lid needs to be cleaned regularly-it's just a matter of disassembly, washing with soapy water and reassembly-we recommend using a bottle brush to scrub the inside of the cup because its mouth is very narrow.
